Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park in Thailand is an ideal destination for nature lovers. During my trip from Koh Samui, I had the opportunity to explore its landscapes and beaches.
My journey began on Koh Samui, a popular and lovely island. I boarded a boat bound for the marine park. The ride of about an hour proved to be an experience in itself, allowing me to admire the deep blue sea, the refreshing sea breezes and the first islands that were emerging on the horizon.
The closer you get to the island, the more incredible the spectacle becomes. Limestone cliffs covered with lush vegetation rise above the turquoise waters, creating an impressive natural setting…
Exploring Mu Ko Ang Thong island
The first stop on our excursion was the Mu Ko Ang Thong island of Ko Mae Ko. After a short hike, I was amazed by the view of this emerald lake. It was an enchanting moment, where the natural beauty of the place took my breath away.
Afterwards, we stopped off at a secluded beach, where I enjoyed a swim in the crystal-clear waters. The peacefulness of this little cove was ideal for relaxing and observing the surrounding nature. .
Snorkelling in crystal-clear waters
One of the essential activities at Mu Ko Ang Thong is snorkelling. Equipped with my mask and snorkel, I set off to explore the seabed, famous for its remarkable biodiversity. The coral reefs are home to a multitude of tropical fish, and the water was so transparent that it was easy to observe the marine life. Swimming in the heart of this aquatic landscape was a real treat.
Kayaking: a solitary adventure around the islands

One of the highlights of my day was exploring by kayak. Discovering hidden caves and exploring secluded coves gave me a unique view of the park. It was an active and tranquil way to appreciate the rugged beauty of Mu Ko Ang Thong.
Back to Koh Samui: an unforgettable sunset

After a day rich in discovery and adventure, we headed back to Koh Samui. The boat journey was enhanced by a dazzling sunset over the Gulf of Thailand. The golden and pink hues of the sky were reflected on the calm water, creating an atmosphere of serenity that was perfect for the end of this excursion.
My day trip to this marine national park will remain one of the most memorable experiences of my stay in Thailand. The park is a natural jewel with views. For anyone wishing to discover Thailand‘s natural wonders, a trip to Mu Ko Ang Thong is an absolute must.
My practical guide to Mu Ko Ang Thong
This was a full-day excursion from Koh Samui and one of the strongest nature experiences of my Thailand road trip. The boat journey took about one hour before the limestone islands appeared on the horizon.
What my excursion included
- A boat trip from Koh Samui to the marine park.
- A short hike on Ko Mae Ko for the emerald-lake viewpoint.
- Time on a quiet beach, plus snorkelling and kayaking.
- Wildlife observation, including langur monkeys in the trees.
- The return journey to Koh Samui at sunset.
Advice based on my visit
I recommend keeping the whole day available, carrying sun protection and water, and using a small waterproof bag for the boat and kayak. The viewpoint requires a short climb, so comfortable shoes are more useful than beach sandals. Conditions and excursion details can change, so check them locally before departure.
