Top 3 Reasons To Explore King Power Mahanakhon In Bangkok

King Power Mahanakhon is one of Bangkok’s most recognisable skyscrapers. I visited it for the panoramic view, the glass-floor SkyWalk and the rooftop atmosphere. The building stands in the Silom–Sathorn area and its pixelated architecture is easy to recognise from many parts of the city.

This guide combines what I experienced during my visit with practical information that I verified again in October 2026. Prices, opening hours and access to the outdoor platform can change, so always check the official website before travelling.

Why King Power Mahanakhon was worth visiting

1. A 360-degree view over Bangkok

The observation areas give a very different perspective on Bangkok. From above, I could understand the scale of the city, identify the dense Silom district and follow the roads and BTS lines through the skyline. The contrast between daylight, sunset and the illuminated city was the main reason I stayed rather than treating this as a quick photo stop.

2. The glass-floor SkyWalk

The transparent platform is the most intense part of the visit. Looking directly below my feet created a real feeling of height, even though the platform is professionally managed. I kept my phone secure and followed the staff instructions before stepping onto the glass. Visitors who dislike heights can still enjoy the indoor and outdoor viewpoints without spending much time on this section.

3. Sunset and the rooftop atmosphere

Late afternoon worked well for me because the same visit included daylight views, sunset colours and Bangkok after dark. The rooftop bar can be enjoyable, but it is optional: the city view remains the essential experience. If your budget is limited, prioritise the observation ticket and decide about a drink once you are upstairs.

Price, opening hours and transport

  • My ticket: at the time of my visit, I paid 880 THB, approximately €25.
  • Official price checked in October 2026: the official site listed adult SkyWalk admission at 1,000 THB during the day and 1,200 THB for the later time slot. These prices can change.
  • Transport: take the BTS Silom Line to Chong Nonsi station and use Exit 3. This was the simplest option because the building is beside the station.
  • Official address: 114 Narathiwas Ratchanakarin Road, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok.
  • Opening information: the official site lists daily opening, but the last admission and access to individual attractions vary.

Check the latest tickets and visitor rules on the official King Power Mahanakhon website before leaving your hotel. Outdoor attractions can close temporarily because of rain, wind or storms.

My suggested two-hour itinerary

  1. Arrive 45 to 60 minutes before sunset and allow time for security and the ticket check.
  2. Begin with the indoor observatory to identify landmarks without rushing.
  3. Move to the outdoor deck while there is still daylight.
  4. Try the glass platform when it is less crowded and follow the staff instructions.
  5. Stay through sunset and photograph the city again after the lights appear.
  6. Finish with the rooftop atmosphere, then return by BTS from Chong Nonsi.

Practical advice based on my visit

  • Choose the weather carefully: visibility and outdoor access matter more than simply choosing a date.
  • Secure loose objects: keep your phone, camera and accessories controlled around the open-air areas.
  • Expect reflections: for indoor photographs, move close to the window and avoid placing bright clothing or screens behind the camera.
  • Do not rush: two hours gives enough time to enjoy several lighting conditions; a very short visit reduces the value of the ticket.
  • Compare the ticket options: bundles may include attractions you do not need, so check what is actually included.
  • Keep a backup plan: if heavy rain affects the outdoor platform, use the indoor viewpoint and consider returning only if your schedule and ticket conditions allow it.

My honest verdict

King Power Mahanakhon is more expensive than many temples and street-level attractions in Bangkok, so I would not describe it as an essential stop for every budget. For me, however, the combination of the skyline, the glass platform and the sunset made it memorable. It is most worthwhile when the weather is clear and when you can stay long enough to see the city change from day to night.
